I have Rheumatoid Arthritis, Osteoarthritis and now Osteoporosis, and was injured in Oct 1987 after having approximately 600 pounds of mail fall on me from a mail truck. Since that injury I have been through repeated rounds of physical therapy, spinal injections, braces, and eventually back surgery removing the disks and placing a cage, bone made disks, rods and pins after 20 plus years of pain. I have permanent nerve damage and constant pain. I take pain medication every day and have for many, many years. I have exercise equipment at home to do therapy.  Several months ago, my physician recommended that I try Battle Field Acupuncture. Being a skeptic, yet interested Registered Nurse myself I felt like….why not? After all the years I have worked with people I have seen many things happen in the medical world. Just maybe I can get some relief. It is a much better option than taking additional pain medication and doing more damage to my internal organs. So I tried it and for the first time in years, I felt like a human being! My physician then referred me to Fine Balance Acupuncture for treatment. The needles used at Fine Balance are so thin that you barely feel them. It was amazing to look down and see needles yet have pain relief at the same time. It’s true….each needle placed lessened the pain in another part of my body.  Melanie was very precise on the areas she treated, pinpointing trouble spots I had had for years. Every week I made progress and improved….my whole personality changed because I was no longer laden with constant pain. I have to admit, acupuncture can be very beneficial to a lot of patients, especially those with Fibromyalgia symptoms or phantom pain from amputation, or just patients like myself who didn’t know what it was like to feel good. This treatment has changed my life! I still continue to exercise, eat right, and take my medication, but I know now that when I need relief from the cycles of pain I endure, Fine Balance Acupuncture is a phone call away. And it works!

When I first scheduled an appointment to see Melanie it was early October (2014) and I was seeing three different doctors (my primary doctor and two specialists) for my sinus and allergy issues. I was preparing to see a fourth doctor and had just spent hundreds of dollars on prescriptions and over the counter medications to assist with vertigo/dizziness, congestion, sinus pain/pressure and headaches. I was facing the possibility of having to have another sinus surgery. My primary doctor had also told me that the frequent ringing in my ears and vertigo I was experiencing might be things I would always have to deal with.

Over the past six years I have had a few different health concerns, including the onset of asthma. I have had a hard time most of my life with sinus and allergy issues. Anytime I spend outside has usually ended with shortness of breath, watery eyes, bad headaches and trouble breathing. My hope was that acupuncture would help with my headaches and provide some relief from pain and congestions.

After two visits I noticed I no longer suffered from daily headaches, pain and pressure. I was breathing better and through my nose which is amazing for me. With the problems I have had in the past I was not able to assist my family with yard work or play much outside with my sons. After four visits with Melanie I was able to spend hours outside raking and doing yard work without breathing problems/headaches. I also was able to run my first 5k this month which is something I have wanted to do for years but held back because of medical concerns. I was able to breathe throughout the entire 5k and although I am sore and out of shape I cannot wait to do my next one. Acupuncture has changed my life and even today with the first big snow I cannot wait until I get home to play with my sons in the snow and build snowmen.

It has also helped a great deal with my panic attack disorder. Overall my health and quality of life have greatly improved and I could not be happier with my experience. -Manda

After I was diagnosed with breast cancer, I decided to see if I could get acupuncture to get my body in the best possible shape to accept the treatments that I would have. I am a retired RN.  I had previous acupuncture years ago at the Cleveland Clinic. I asked my surgeon for the names of some acupuncturists and she referred me to Melanie. When I called Melanie Campbell, she stated that acupuncture could help me before and during all of my treatments. I contacted my insurance company and they stated that I had benefits that included acupuncture; they covered a percentage of the charges.

On my first visit, Melanie did a complete assessment and told me many of the ways that acupuncture could benefit me. I had already had 2 chemotherapy sessions and had 14 to go over six months. After the first session, I noticed a lessening in the nausea and diarrhea. Those symptoms decreased and were held in check by the acupuncture. I never vomited. I usually had acupuncture once a week on the day before what was typically my worst day after chemotherapy. On every visit, Melanie would do a reassessment and tailor my treatment accordingly. I was surprised when she was able to treat the hemorrhoid I had developed from the diarrhea. Within 3 days of her treatment, the pain and discomfort was gone. Over the past 10 months, I have had chemotherapy, a mastectomy and 33 radiation treatments. In addition to the conditions I have already mentioned, Melanie and her staff have treated me for sleep disturbances, stress, chest pain, peripheral neuropathy, fatigue, and Shingles. I experienced an initial decrease and, ultimately, resolution of the symptoms of nausea, diarrhea, chest pain and Shingles. When I had difficulty sleeping, one acupuncture treatment would resolve the problem. There was a lot of stress and emotional distress associated with a cancer diagnosis and treatment; acupuncture helped me deal with this and keep a positive attitude. I noticed that throughout my whole treatment process I seemed to have more energy than most of my “Chemo Buddies”. I believe that acupuncture was the main reason for that.

I highly recommend Fine Balance Acupuncture for anyone with breast cancer or any condition that could benefit from acupuncture. It has helped me with the side effects of treatment and enabled me to maintain a positive attitude which doctors tell me is so important for a good outcome. I’m a combat Veteran and have several issues to be treated. I have a shoulder injury, a back condition, degenerative arthritis of the spine, carpal tunnel, migraines, and other body pains to live with. Acupuncture provides exceptional pain relief that I cannot find anywhere else. The practitioners at Fine Balance truly care and make an extra effort to help me live as painlessly as possible. I also suffer greatly from PTSD, anxiety, and have a TBI.  Before acupuncture, I would rarely sleep and experience horrific nightmares and flashbacks. Everything in my life has improved dramatically. I’ve been seeing Melanie for regular acupuncture appointments for around 9 months.  When I started seeing her, my husband and I had been trying to conceive for over a year and a half.  I had been charting, and all of my tests had been normal, so we were in the unexplained infertility category, which is incredibly frustrating.  From the beginning, Melanie was friendly, knowledgeable, and so wonderful to talk to about all things infertility related.  She was also convinced that we would conceive naturally.  I had been charting, so we knew I had been ovulating, but late in my cycle, so after we talked for a long time at my first appointment, Melanie set about helping to get my cycle to be more regular (and also making me feel awesome, too – I always leave acupuncture appointments feeling happy and floaty).  We successfully moved my ovulation date up by several days, and about 2 months after I started acupuncture, I got my first faint positive on a home pregnancy test ever!  It turned out to be a chemical pregnancy (early miscarriage), but I thought it was progress – I had never seen a positive before!  After that, we moved to medicated cycles and IUI treatments, and Melanie was with me, providing support, encouragement, and an empathetic ear to listen to all of my worries, anxieties, and concerns.  All three of my IUI cycles were negative, which was a big blow, but I have to say that seeing Melanie throughout it all was incredibly helpful.  She is very knowledgeable, not judgmental, and is a genuinely caring person who obviously relishes in developing close relationships with her patients.  That has meant almost as much to me as the benefits I think I’ve gotten from the regular acupuncture appointments.  My cycles have been regular, and I’ve been feeling more positive, since I’ve been seeing Melanie.  And I think that has helped a lot.

After our three failed IUI cycles, we decided that we would take a month off from trying to conceive and then start IVF in January 2013.  I saw Melanie only once during that month off, mainly for de-stressing and relaxation, and I truly took a break.  I did not chart, did not pay attention to anything.  I drank tons of wine, and had fun.  In early January, I was impatient for my period to start so that we could start our IVF medications.  Then, one morning, I woke up with really sore breasts.  I had the random thought to take a pregnancy test, even though there was no reason to think that anything would have happened.  Big. Fat. Positive!!!!!!!!!  You could have knocked me over with a feather when I saw that second dark line on that pregnancy test!  A blood test at my RE’s office confirmed it, and Melanie was one of the first people I contacted that day!  I still cannot believe that we conceived naturally, on the one cycle in the past two and a half years when we were not trying at all! I couldn’t believe it, but Melanie could.  She has said all along that we would conceive naturally, and she was right.  I am absolutely convinced that my regular acupuncture appointments with Melanie helped make this happen, and I am incredibly grateful to her for her support, encouragement, and positive vision throughout this whole process.  I cannot recommend her highly enough, and I think that all women who are having trouble conceiving should consider acupuncture with Melanie as a complement to any other medical treatments they are trying. – Sarah

Acupuncture Excellence at Its Best!

My husband and I had been trying to get pregnant for many years without success. We have been through multiple rounds in the fertility process from Clomid to IUI’s without much success. Everyone was getting pregnant around us and we wondered if it would ever happen for us and the stress was continuing to build. This amount of stress was clearly not helping my fertility issues. My husband had been going to Melanie for over a year with much success to relieve his chronic conditions including allergies, sinus problems and neck pain. He and other friends suggested that I tried acupuncture for infertility. From the moment I stepped foot through the door, Melanie has been a huge success. She is very professional, knowledgeable and skilled. She asks the right questions, listens and responds to all of our concerns and has been very encouraging throughout this whole process. Just recently, my husband and I got our POSITIVE pregnancy test and are excited about the future. Melanie has been a great help and a great friend but most importantly, it is a great friendship that we will cherish for many years to follow. Went to see Alicia today for an acupuncture treatment to relieve pain in my neck and upper back. I was in a car accident yesterday which caused a decrease in motion along with severe pain. This was my first time getting acupuncture and Alicia explained everything and she made me feel completely at ease. I felt minor relief as soon as she started and had regained some motion in my neck at the end of the treatment. As the night goes on I’m noticing more relief. I am very happy with the results, and will definitely be back soon for more treatment.

I suffered from chronic, daily migraines for two years. After thirteen doctors and specialists and countless procedures, none of which brought any permanent relief, I found Melanie at Fine Balance Acupuncture. I had been in the ER the night before with a migraine and was still having symptoms during my first visit.  By the time I got home, my headache was completely gone. Over the course of a month and four appointments, I only had one headache, and that one was not severe. Many of the “specialists” who had treated me to no avail had asked me if I had ever considered acupuncture. Me, in my old fashioned ways, had not. “Working with Melanie has been an incredible experience for me. For the last 10 years I have suffered with debilitating migraine headaches, which often leave me completely incapacitated. After two unsuccessful years of trying  to conceive, I began seeing Melanie  to try acupuncture for fertility.  Previously we had done pills, injectable drugs, and IUI, all which were painfully unsuccessful.  I never really thought of acupuncture until my doctor mentioned it and reading into it a little more.  At my first appointment, Melanie put me at ease while going over all my medical background.   She asked me to give her three complete cycles of treatments with her to get my body where it needed to be.  In those three months I saw dramatic change in my body.  Every spring and fall I would suffer from allergies, during this period, nothing, completely healthy.  My energy level was up, I was getting great sleep at night, and dealing with stressful events seemed to not bother me like before. And most of all I noticed my periods were changing and my body seemed to be adjusting to a more normal cycle.   I was a relaxed individual whom I owe to Melanie and Acupuncture.  

About six months into my treatments I had laparoscopy surgery and found out that I had endometriosis, which was removed during surgery.   I never stopped my acupuncture treatments during this time.  Two months later my husband and I got our POSITIVE PREGNANCY TEST!!  We are so grateful for Melanie and for the acupuncture.  Melanie was a great person to share my ups and downs with and I couldn’t have asked for a better person to lean on.  I highly recommend acupuncture to individuals that are suffering from the pain of infertility.
